Tiny Square Cinnabar Trinket Box

Tiny intricately carved red cinnabar trinket box with a black lacquer interior. It's the perfect size to hold a special ring for someone or keep pills or small earrings in. Two charming birds are carved on the lid. Cinnabar is a colored lacquer, the resin of a family of trees found in southern China, which when hardened becomes a natural plastic. It has been used as an artistic medium in China since at least the sixth century B.C. Round trinket box sold separately.
